Over the duration of my senior year at UMD, I competed in the 2022 NASA RASC-AL Competition. At the end of this project, my team was invited to the annual forum to present our design and were awarded Best in Theme.
The final assignment for my program was to write an in-depth technical report detailing the work I had completed during my capstone project. This report was then submitted to the NASA RASC-AL judges to determine if we would be finalists in the competition.
I led the design of all mechanical components through this project. This included pressurized systems that were required to maintain NASA standard factors of safety throughout the duration of the planned mission.
Throughout this project, I continued to grow my computer-aided design skills. Siemens NX was the primary software used for the design. I led the structural design of all mechanical components for this project.
I also gained experience using NASTRAN for finite element analysis. I led the analysis for all structural designs within the project resulting in tens of hours using NASTRAN. I utilized both static structural and linear buckling solvers throughout the design process to confirm structural integrity under our predicted loads.
